A well established awning, the Caranex is tough but notably lightweight - only 9.5kg - less than half a "stand-alone" steel frame awning. Easily handled, it packs in a compact, 100x30cm kitbag and, after little practice, is quickly up and down. It is freestanding and dries out rapidly prior to packing. These key features make it ideal for overnight stops and limited stays in one place, whereas the weight, bulk and complexity of the orthodox "stand-alone" favours longer term use, a week or so, in one place and takes more than double the space when packed.
The standard Caranex H1 fits the majority of cars and vans of average height. The H3 and H4T ranges extend their scope even wider. These heavy duty units are all the same size except for a higher and wider sleeve to accommodate the height and width of larger vehicles. All are supplied with an extra fitted groundsheet and a freestanding kit. These tough, useful tents sell all over the world, quickly providing extra living space secure under one roof with the vehicle, where and when it's needed. Type H3. For medium height vehicles to about 5'7" (1.7m) roof height. Vauxhall Astramax van, Picasso, Picnic, Renault Scenic, Mitsubishi Space Wagon and siimilar sized compact MPV's etc. Citroen C15, Berlingo/Partner, Renault Extra van, Kangoo, Fiat Fiorino and Multipla, Ford Courier and similar size 'cube' vans, Vauxhall Rascal, Diahatsu, Subaru, and Honda vans, Suzuki Supercarry, Diahatsu Sportrak, Terios, Suzuki Samurai, SJ140, Lada Niva, Honda CRV, Freelander, Toyota Rav 4 and compact 4X4's and MPV's, Zafira etc (Use an H4T for these vehicles when fitted with a full length roofrack).
Type H4T. For wider vehicles with a roof height of around 1.91m (6'4"), 4X4's, MPV's and Landrovers including T1,2,3, Lightweight, Defender 90/110, Discovery and Range Rover, Diahatsiu Fourtrak, Chrysler Cherokee, Wrangler, Isuzu Trooper, Mercedes Benz G series, Mitsubishi Shogun, Nissan Patrol, Suzuki Vitara, Vauxhall Frontera and Monterey, Serena, Vanette, Terrano/Ford Maverick, Explorer, Renault Espace, Galaxy, Sharan, Synergie, Ulysee, etc, and all MPV's of similar size. Seat Terra, Toyota Landcruiser, HiLux, Space Cruiser, Midi van, Transit (low roof), Trafic (low roof), VW T1, T2 and T3 only. The H4T will adjust to fit any vehicle in the H1, or H3 categories, a worthwhile bonus.
Type H4T - fold-back top sleeve adapts to roofs with or without roofracks - the front sleeve also adapts to full length roofracks, roof boots, roof tents, elevating roofs and hitops to Transit/Trafic size - a very adaptable tent. Note - van rear swing doors must be under about 6'6" (1.98m) to open under the Caranex awning roof. Fits van side doors with VK kit - see below.
Type H4TL. An H4T with an extra 30cm (12") full-length "upfront". For extra living space, safaris etc., accommodates wide swing doors. Fits vehicles taking the H4T.
Type H4TW. Extra 30cm (12") wide giving a floorspace of 1.83m (6') by 2.13m (7') long. Fits vehicles taking the H4T and those with wide rear hatches or an overall width of 1.83m (6') or more - maximum about 2.13m (7').
Type H4TH Extra high roof 2.29m (7'6") sloping from tthe front to 1.98m (6'6") for most Romahomes and similar vehicles with tall rear doors. Spec as H4T.
H4VK adaption to sliding or swing side doors under 6'6" (1.98m) overall height
The H4T with VK kit. With the front sleeve rolled back, a set of strong 'limpets' retain the Caranex frame to the side of many vehicles. A waterproof seal between the two is assured with a simple DIY kit of self-adhesive Velcro or gutter clips to allow tailoring to individual vehicles profiles. It is not altered permanently and so may be used on other vehicles in the normal way. The kit includes an extra pole set which enhances free-standing capability.

GENERAL NOTES
Rear mounted spare wheel. Offset roof support poles to accommodate spare wheels on swing doors.
Hard and soft tops. Caranex fits both and also long/short wheelbase variants of 4X4's.
Pick-ups with hard/soft tops usually take an H4T, an H1 if open decked.
Long wheelbase vehicles. All Caranexes will fit any lenght of vehicle. Additional cord extends the length of the front retaining guy, alternatively, Caranex suction limpets make neat, effective guy fixig points anywhere on the vehicle and further reduce guy lengths.
Extra poles, guys etc. For some applications, (e.g.: when used freestanding for extended periods in particularly uncertain weather, etc.) it may be worth fitting an extra spare set of poles for greater rigidity with additional guys as required.
